VIP Diagnostic Imaging, a division of Radiological Associates Medical Group (RAMG), offers low-dose CT scans of the sinuses, facial bones, and temporal bones, as well as maxillofacial/dental scans.

Information at a Glance

For Patients

Your CT examination is painless and requires no special preparation. Our friendly reception staff will ask you to complete two registration forms.

For dental patients payment is typicaly required at time of service. For medical patients, insurance information can be found here.

Required Forms

All patients must be referred by their doctor/dentist with the
Imaging Order Form completed by their physician. We also require a Consent and Release Form, as well as a Patient Registration Form. These may be printed and completed in advance by you and your physician and brought to your appointment.

Medical professionals

Patients may be referred by contacting our office by fax or phone, and completing the Imaging Order Form which can be faxed or sent with the patient. We will contact the patient directly to arrange the appointment.

About CT Scans

All CT scans will be performed on our new Carestream CS 9300 Cone Beam CT scanner in our convenient and comfortable private office on Samaritan Drive across the street from Good Samaritan Hospital. Cone beam CT is a newer technology which acquires a volume of data in one pass of approximately 20 seconds, from which tomographic images are reconstructed. The result is a 3-Dimensional image set with submillimeter isotropic voxels in any plane.

VIP Diagnostic Imaging offers same day scanning (when allowable by insurance) and same day report turnaround. Reports and images may be accessed on-line through a web browser, and reports can be faxed immediately after interpretation. CD's can also be burned and given to the patient on the spot.

What can you expect?

CT Scans, or computed tomography, are a special type of x-ray equipment used when your doctor has determined that a regular dental or facial x-ray would not offer as much detail as required. Your doctor may use this technology to produce three dimensional (3-D) images of your teeth, soft tissues, nerve pathways and bone in a single scan.

A cone beam CT examination is painless and requires no special preparation. Upon arriving at our office you will be greeted by our friendly reception staff and asked to complete two registration forms. Once the forms are completed the CT Technologist will take you back to our exam room where you will be asked to remove any hearing aids, metal, pins, jewelry, dentures, or anything that may interfere with the area of interest. If you are pregnant, or if there is any possibility of pregnancy, you should notify the Technologist. You will then be seated in the exam chair or may stand upright while the scan is being performed. The cone beam CT machine will circle around your head in a 360-degree rotation in order to produce a number of images. The CT scan is painless and takes less than 25 seconds. You may resume normal activities once the scan is complete.

Meet our Radiologists

Dr. Kenneth Ong

Dr. Kenneth Ong completed his radiology residency at UCLA in 2000 and a 2-yr neuroradiology fellowship at UCSF in 2002. In addition to brain and spine disorders, his areas of interest include head and neck cancers, neuro-otology, coronary artery imaging, and oncology imaging. Dr. Ong has been with Radiological Associates Medical Group since 2002 and was the past chair of the department of diagnostic imaging at Good Samaritan Hospital.

Dr. Matthew Tran

Dr. Tran is a Board Certified Radiologist with Fellowship training in Advanced Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Musculoskeletal Radiology. Dr. Tran graduated with High Honors from the University of California at Davis before completing his M.D. at Albany Medical College. He then completed a medical internship at St. Mary's Medical center before completing a Radiology residency at the University of California at Irvine Medical Center. Following this, he completed his training with a Fellowship in MRI and Musculosketal Radiology at the University of Southern California Medical Center. Dr. Tran is a member of the American College of Radiology. Dr. Tran's approach to the complexities of radiology is guided by a simple principle - always putting the patient first.

Dr. Judong Pan

Dr. Pan is a board certified radiologist with fellowship training in Musculoskeletal Imaging. After graduating medical school at Shadong University, China, Dr. Pan immigrated to the United States to pursue advanced studies. Following completion of a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology/Pathobiology at the University of Southern California, and a postdoctoral fellowship in the department of Medicine at UCLA, Dr. Pan then completed a medical internship at Geisinger Medical Center, Pennsylvania. Following this he completed his diagnostic radiology residency at the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Pan then finished his training with a Musculoskeletal Imaging and Interventions Fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School, Boston. Dr. Pan has expertise across a wide range of diagnostic modalities, with emphasis on complex musculoskeletal conditions including sports medicine, degenerative conditions, and oncology. He has additional expertise in musculoskeletal interventions and injections.

CBCT technology delivers a 3-Dimensional image set with submillimeter isotropic voxels in any plane. This technology can be applied to clinical indications such as sinusitis and otomastoiditis where there is inherent high CT contrast between the pathologies of sinusitis and otomastoiditis and the adjacent bone. The datasets are also compatible with most surgical navigation systems.

VIP lmaging's CS 9300's selectable fields of view, resolutions, and scan times confine radiation to the region of interest to ensure a safer exam for your patients. As a result, our CBCT delivers up to 1/lOth of the dose of conventional multidetector CT (MDCT) systems.

Dental

Because our new 3D system allows technologists to target a precise area for exposure, your patient will be exposed to significantly less radiation than other dental 3D units that lack this capability. The system’s ability to minimize radiation dose is particularly important when examining children and adults who require multiple CT scans.

VIP Diagnostic Imaging's 3D digital scans provide the most dental/maxillofacial information at a reduced level of radiation exposure. Our system allows technologists to target the area of interest with selectable fields of view. That means only the area of concern is scanned, such as an impacted tooth , supernumerary or third molar. This is especially useful for Endodontics and oral surgery.

Medical

The CS 9300's industry-leading superior isotropic spatial resolution promotes better visualization of sinus structures, sub-millimeter structures at air-bone interfaces, and middle and inner ear components and interfaces - such as the tympanic membrane, ossicles, semicircular canals, mastoid air cells, and cochlea.

Case Study

History

53 year old. Chronic left facial pressure. History of trauma. Left facial asymmetry. Increasing pressure left face.

Findings

Compete opacification of left maxillary sinus. Left maxillary infundibulum obliterated. Downward bowing of the left inferior orbital wall. Inward bowing of medial wall of left maxillary sinus.

Diagnosis

Left maxillary atelectasis or silent sinus syndrome.

Discussion

Maxillary sinus atelectasis or silent sinus syndrome is caused by chronic occlusion of the left maxillary ostium. This leads to gradual resorption of the air and development of negative pressure. This causes inward of bowing of the walls of the left maxillary sinus. This can lead to facial asymmetry, exophthalmos, hypoglobus, and diplopia. This can be an acquired condition, sometimes the result of trauma. Ultimately, surgery treatment may be necessary to prevent progression of facial asymmetry and ophthalmologic complications.
